Growing up on a land faraway, Like many nations, was ruled by vanity of self. Where what you are, paved the way, For a life that live you may. Who you are is of no pertinence; Your belief and ideals are for you to suffer; It is of no consequence for those in power.
I searched for a land of acceptance: Where the utmost was the power of conscience, Where the union of men was ruled by consensus, Where liberty and freedom of thought lead to acceptance of all those who seek and believe in the power of benevolence, Where reason and logic are of high prevalence, “e pluribus unum”, among the many all are of importance.
I read the declaration of 1776, O the words of eternal guidance! The words did not fit the time, but serves as an aspiration; For humans from all corners, irrespective of division. To believe “all men are created equal”, O what an inspiration! “The unalienable right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness”, Bestowed on us by providence, but it requires eternal vigilance, To protect from the attacks of vile men of pure ignorance.
Like many, I journeyed to be a part of this human endeavor, An endeavor that has been embarked with such fervor. After the beginning, four score and seven years later; With hallowed battle grounds were drenched in blood of many martyr, Rose a nation baptized in blood, fire, and vigor. We again marched to our Capital five score later; Pledging the dreams for all to endure.
We have fought for our ideals in all clime and place, Protecting our values and our virtuous sense. But the mammoth struggle our nation will ever face; Is the one within, fracturing us along the lines of politics and race; Seeds sown by the malice men of disgrace. Testing our spirits with ideas born of vainglory and prejudice; Will we stand and preserve our foundations - truth and justice?
My fellow Americans, our diversity is our strength, Our values form the glue that binds us in faith. What we are doesn’t define who we are; Rather what we have done, what we chose to do, And our actions today that defines who we are. Stand up, and do not fade in to the abyss of hate; For we are a people of consensus who write our own fate!
